In the summer of 2015 I spent 5 weeks in Husavik in Northern Iceland working in the studios at Fjuk Arts Centre.

Rather than drawing directly from my surroundings or responding to obvious Icelandic tropes, (which is one classic response to working on a residency) I instead built up a large collection of found imagery from the local charity shop (an hour and a half drive away) . I incorporated these with recurring shapes and lines that stuck in my head from walking around the fishing town and its surrounding areas.

I did however allow myself one day to draw in the Whale museum and embrace everything Icelandic which resulted in the zine – ‘Whales Tails’.
